Getting Started

Registering with the site

From the home page click on the Create New Account beneath the Login button.
You will need to choose a username and specify your e-mail address.
One of the goals is the website is to improve our community. By choosing a recognisable username it will allow us to connect our on-line community with the real world. So for example I'm john.stringer rather than stringaling or timelord483.
A temporary password will be e-mailed to the address you specified.
You must then log in with this password (or click on the link in the e-mail) and then give yourself your preferred password.

Become a "resident"

In order to be able to create content you need to be classified as a resident. Any one of the site administers can do this for you so it should happen within a few hours. Or you can e-mail me and ask me to do it straight away. You should also mention if you belong to any other clubs, such as WVIC, so that I can classify you appropriately and you get access to any private material.

Create some content

You are now free to add some content to the site. Feel free to experiment. You should be able to edit anything add - even after you have submitted it. If you get into trouble you can ask for help on the helpdesk forum. You can also use this forum for requesting new features that you would like to see added. The whole purpose of this site is to assist you so tell us what you need and we will see what we can do.
If you are stuck for what to create then here are some suggestions

  • Enter an event

If you are organising an event or you belong to a club then you can enter events into the calendar. Just click on Create content, then Event.

  • Start a blog.

A blog is an on-line diary and is most appropriate if you want to provide information on an on-going basis. Maybe describing an on-going project, sermons that you have given or a gossip column. Readers will be able to comment - but the main text will all be yours. To start just click on My blog in the menu below your username.

  • Contribute to a forum.

The forums are more suited for dialog or anything you are looking for feedback on. There are forums where you ask for help, try and sell something, discuss the school or the parish council. Just click on Forums, find the appropriate forum and then either click on Post New Topic or respond to somebody elses post.

  • Upload some pictures.

Click on gallery. You can then either click on Your album where you can create whatever you like or you can enter one of the existing albums (buildings, people, nature etc) and upload a photo there.

  • Add a home page.

To create a home page for yourself or for a club or organisation you belong to just click on Home Pages and then click on Add Child Page. You will own the page that is made and will be able to edit as often as you like. You will also be able to create sub-pages, include photos from the gallery and attach files for visitors to download. It's also possible to have some of your pages only available to selected residents. E-mail us if you want this set-up.

  • If you run a little cottage industry or even run a major business then you can also add yourself to our Yellow Pages. Instructions on how to do it are found on the first page.
