Annual Cricket Match

01/06/2008 - 14:00
01/06/2008 - 17:30

This year's cricket match will take place on June 1st, 2pm to 5.30pm at Great Durnford Cricket Pitch. For anybody not familiar with the concept the valley cricket match is when the two sides of the river compete against the other for the honour of victory. Separated only by two umpires (one short-sighted, the other biased, some would say a cheat), ball tampering, sledging, corruption and rain are all rife. Most years The Woodfords threaten not to return to the field of play after tea - yes the cakes are that good. Anybody that owns whites that do not contain mothballs or who knows which is the correct end of the bat to hold is banned from playing at least until 24 hours before the game when I manically try and get 22 players together.

In addition to the main event a game for children will take place during tea (from 3.30 to 4) and a treasure hunt for all ages will be organised. Please bring your own picnic tea or fight for the scraps left by the cricketers.

Durnfords

Sign me up for the Durnfords - although I've never been known to actually hit the ball, I can give it a jolly good fright occasionally
