Woodford Valley Investment Club

We are small group of people that meet at 7.30 p.m. (for a 7.45 start) on the second Monday of each month with an interest in investing. Each month we each contribute some cash into a common pot which is then invested into a portfolio of shares. Which shares to buy and sell are agreed at our meetings.
The main goals of the investment club are to:
- Enjoy ourselves
- To learn something about investing
- And last, least and most unlikely - to make a profit
We meet in each other’s homes and normally enjoy a glass of wine and a nibble to soften the pains of our most recent losses. Our investment decisions are normally made at the end of the meeting which may explain why we often end up selecting the most riskiest of penny shares.
We welcome guests and prospective new members to our meetings. Please see the calendar for the venue and either contact the host or drop us an e-mail.
You are most welcome to come to as many meetings as you like to see what you are committing yourself to. If you
decide to join you will need to
- Sign the New Member’s Agreement (download below) to say that you agree to the club’s constitution and rules and bring it to a meeting.
- Pay £10 into our petty cash account
- Set up a monthly standing order to reach the club’s bank account by the 5th of each month. Our sort code is 08-92-99 our account number is 65262317 and the reference can be your name. If your payment has not cleared by the Friday before the meeting, your subs will be used to purchase units at the following month's price.
You can leave the club at any time and the units you have accumulated in our common fund will be sold back to
you. A charge of 2.5% is levered to cover any transaction charges. You will receive payment as soon as is possible,
but within 90 days of your resignation becoming affective – see the club rules for more details.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do I need to live in the Woodford Valley?
A. No, but most members do.
Q. What is the least/most that I can pay a month
A. Members should pay £25 a month.
Q. Can we join as a couple?
A. No - for tax reasons one or both of you must become a member. Of course if one of you joins the other can come as a guest.
Q. Do I have to attend all meetings?
A. No – we don’t kick anybody out for not attending.
Q. When does the club pay out?
A. During this first stage of the club’s life it is our intention just to grow our portfolio in size. If we are investing
just £1000 in a share then trading costs of £25 (to buy and sell) represent an immediate 2.5% loss on top of the
stamp duty and buy/sell spread. Once our portfolio has grown large enough for us to trade in reasonably sized
amounts then we will discuss how much and when we will pay out.
