11+ Mock Exams

For the last three years I have organised some mock 11+ exams and the feedback has always been very encouraging. Parents and children felt that the exams were the best preparation possible as they helped the children understand what the ‘real’ exam would be like in terms of structure, pressure and timing.

So, I have decided to run another course of three exams ready for the 11+ test in November. The aims of these exams would be to teach students how to fill in the answer booklets correctly, how to use tactics to achieve the highest results possible and how to time each section of the paper. As well as these techniques it would be very useful for the children to get used to sitting a verbal, maths, English and free writing paper in one morning so that the need for complete concentration for a long time won’t come as such such a shock.

The children will sit four papers that I have prepared for them. (I am a qualified teacher and have been teaching the 11+ for seven years.) The papers will last the same length of time as the real papers in November so that the children get used to the format - although we will have shorter breaks to keep the overall time to a minimum. The children will be sat at individual desks and will not be allowed to talk to each other.

The mock exams are highly beneficial for the following reasons:

  • Official setting – sat at desks
  • Strict timing of all papers
  • Working under exam conditions
  • Familiarisation with official format
  • Building up concentration levels
  • Results will help parents to know what level their child is at compared to the other children and how their child handles the pressure of the exam.
  • It is recommended students attend all three exams so that they can gain confidence and (hopefully) achieve a higher result each time.

I will send the results within a week of each exam either by post or e-mail. These results will give your child’s marks and position alongside the marks of the other attendants so that you see how they did compared with the other children.

I am also offering an additional full report, for those who wish, which give more information on the marks including a detailed breakdown of each paper of the exam. I will send examples of questions that your child struggled with so that you can go over problems with them at home. There will be general comments of how the exams were tackled from an overall perspective, as well as by your child, and I will analyse the papers and give guidance on how each student could improve their marks and which sections need more work.

The exams will be held at Woodford Valley Primary School on the following dates…

Saturday September 15th 9.15 – 12.55

Saturday October 13th 9.15 – 12.55

Saturday November 3rd 9.15 – 12.55

Prices

Each exam will cost £20 (reduced price for all three = £55).

Please add £15 for each full report you would like. You do not have to take a full report for every exam. If you prefer, you can buy one for the first exam and then order others if you think it was worthwhile.

Priority will be given to my students and members of
